Here are the top three stories today in Dunedin:
- Dunedin may regulate smoking in parks. The new state law gives the city the authority to ban the smoking of cigarettes at municipal beaches and parks. City commissioners discussed the topic during a July 26 meeting, during which they laughed about how the law doesn't ban unfiltered cigars. "That's so ridiculous, but I'm just saying," said Commissioner Moe Freaney. According to the article, the bill focuses on preventing litter rather than smoke although both are environmental concerns. City officials are working with county staff and Dunedin Parks and Recreation to make a decision. They're also looking into what other cities in the county are doing before making a final decision. - Four Star Riot will be playing a free show at Dunedin Brewery on August 6 at 9 p.m. The alternative band is best known for its song “Something So Right” which was featured in the background of the pizza delivery scene in Deadpool! Additionally, they've opened up for Howard Jones and A Flock Of Seagulls at the Cuban Club six years ago. (CL Tampa)
- Dunedin New World Celts have been getting a lot of media attention lately after making several hilarious videos for the city. Founded back in 2000, the organization is responsible for raising money to support the Dunedin community. It offers scholarships to those in need, runs a bagpipe lending program, hosts various whiskey tasting events and volunteers across the city. The New World Celts 22nd Anniversary Banquet and Founder's Celebration will be held this weekend at the Dunedin Golf Club. The sold-out event is open to the public as well as other members!
