Here are the top 3 stories today in Dunedin:
- Dunedin’s signature 5K Hog Hustle Event is back and scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at 8:00 AM. The course begins at Hale Activity Center and follows a scenic route along Edgewater Drive and through downtown Dunedin. The first 400 runners will receive a Dry-Fit t-shirt and awards will be presented to the top male and female runners in each age category. The cost to participate is $25 which includes a pancake breakfast. Registration is now open online. (Active)
- Dunedin Fine Art Center’s new exhibit "Sunflowers for Ukraine" is helping raise money to feed Ukrainian refugees. The exhibit was devised by chance when an abundance of paper was leftover from last month's Trashy Treasures event. The center's curatorial director, Catherine Bergmann, came up with the idea to idea to cut the pieces of paper to a uniform size and have the art community create sunflower works with them as a way to raise money for Ukraine. All proceeds from purchased artwork will be donated to World Central Kitchen, which is set up at a 24-hour pedestrian border crossing in southern Poland. The exhibit will be up until May 15. Purchases can be made in person or over the phone. (Tampa Bay Times - subscription required)
- As you may have guessed, Dunedin's latest coworking space, Hope Grove Co-Work and Care, was a product of the current pandemic. Heather Miniello, 35, was running a successful bed and breakfast in Dunedin, selling real estate, and taking care of her 4-year-old daughter when several drastic changes last year caused her to reevaluate her priorities. After working with a life coach, she decided she wanted to create a place where people could come to work remotely, hang out, take classes, and attend support groups. Hope Grove is a nonprofit organization that relies on sponsorships, grants, and rental fees from the therapists and teachers who use the space to operate the co-working facility. Their workspace is free to use and has a bit of something for everyone! (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
