Here are the top three stories in Dunedin today:

  1. In response to the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the North Dunedin Baptist Church held an active shooter workshop Saturday night. The discussion was led by Daniel Kilburn, the founder of Emergency Action Planning. Kilburn recommends being aware of your surroundings and mentally noting all exits when entering a restaurant, mall, or venue. His family has a special code word for danger, and they all immediately leave the building if anyone says it. Additionally, his workshop taught "Run, Hide or Fight" which suggests you run from the danger as quickly as possible. If you can't run, hide somewhere that puts an object like a door or table between you and any bullets. Finally, if you can't run or hide, prepare yourself to fight. (WFLA)
  2. After an increase in coronavirus cases, the CDC now recommends wearing face masks indoors around Pinellas County. Despite Hillsborough, Polk, Sarasota, Pasco and Alachua counties also showing spikes in COVID cases, the Florida Department of Health has yet to issue its own advisory. Some indoor venues in these counties have revised their face mask protocols including The Dunedin Fine Art Center, which will require masks to enter starting on Tuesday. Other similar establishments are likely to follow suit in the coming days. (Dunedin Patch)
  3. Pinellas County will host a Hurricane Preparedness Day event on June 4 at the Lealman Exchange in St. Petersburg between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The family-friendly event will include presentations from local experts on important storm-related topics, including hurricane planning for pets and Pinellas County flood risks. You'll also be able to find your evacuation zone and those with disabilities can register for special assistance if your area is evacuated during a storm. Vaccines will also be available for free, including the Covid vaccine, flu vaccine, and the Hepatitis A vaccine. Your pets can get microchipped, the rabies vaccine, tags, and licensing for free as well! Kids can enjoy free hot dogs, snow cones, and refreshments. Additionally, receive a free hurricane kit while supplies last! (NewsBreak)
