6-Year-Old Killed While Crossing Oldsmar Road With Mom, Sister
A 6-year-old girl was killed after being struck by a car while crossing West St. Petersburg Drive in Oldsmar with her mother and sister.
OLDSMAR, FL — A 6-year-old girl was killed after being struck by a car while crossing West St. Petersburg Drive in Oldsmar with her mother and sister.
On Saturday at 7:19 p.m., Pinellas County sheriff's deputies responded to West St. Petersburg Drive, west of the intersection of Bayview Boulevard.
According to investigators, 40-year-old Yanitza Ortega of Spring Hill and her 10-year-old and 6-year-old daughters were standing on the north side of West St. Petersburg Drive waiting to cross southbound.

A 2010 Nissan Altima, driven by 40-year-old Eric Hoppes of Tampa, was traveling west on West St. Petersburg Drive when Ortega and her daughters entered the road and were struck by his car.
Investigators say there are no traffic control devices at the intersection of West St. Petersburg Drive and Bayview Boulevard, and the car had the right of way. The mother and daughters were not in the designated crosswalk at the time.

Ortega and her daughters were taken to the hospital where the 6-year-old died.
