Police: Palm Harbor Motorcyclist Dies in U.S. 19 Crash

According to Pinellas Park Police, one man was killed in an early morning crash, which closed part of U.S. 19 near Bryan Dairy for several hours Thursday.

A Palm Harbor motorcyclist died in a Nov. 15 crash in the 12000 Block of U.S. 19 in Pinellas Park, according to a post on the Pinellas Park Police Department Facebook page.

Pinellas Park emergency officials were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and car on U.S. 19 early Thursday morning, police said. 

A preliminary investigation has determined Geoffrey Burton, 53, of Palm Harbor, was killed in the accident as he was headed northbound on U.S. 19 around 3 a.m.

Burton's 2007 Suzuki motorcycle reportedly collided with a northbound 2004 Dodge Intrepid driven by Brian Winthrop, 32, of Holiday, police report.

The motorcyclist, Burton, was reportedly not wearing a helmet and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Winthrop was not injured, police said.

The accident occured near the interchange of U.S. 19 and Bryan Dairy Road and caused the closure of the intersection and the northbound lanes of U.S. 19, from 49th Street North to 126th Street North, for almost six hours, according to Bay News 9.

No charges have been filed at this time. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police report.
