On the tarmac, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were met by Sen. Marco Rubio, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Governor Rick Scott, Vice President Pence and his wife Karen Pence. Trump told reporters that he is still very committed to pushing for a border wall between the United States in Mexico. Democratic leadership announced Wednesday night that they were on there way to an agreement with the president to enshrine the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy into law and that the wall was not a part of the negotiations.

"Very important is the wall," he said. "We have to be sure the wall isn’t obstructed. Very important is the wall. We have to be sure the wall isn’t obstructed because without the wall, I wouldn't do anything."

"We’re talking about taking care of people, people who were brought here, people who’ve done a good job," he continued. "We’ll only do it if we get extreme security, not only surveillance but everything that goes with surveillance. If there’s not a wall, we’re doing nothing."

On tax reform, he reiterated recent remarks that tax breaks for wealthy Americans are "not my priority." He said he was focusing on middle class tax breaks and a 15 percent business tax rate.

Addressing the hurricane, Trump praised the recovery work. He thanked a group of rescue workers who met him at the airport.
