5 Things to Know This Weekend

"The Curious Savage": The Gulfport Community Players present this comedy about Ethel Savage, a widow whose children have committed her to a "genteel asylum" to try and get her late husband's fortune. Shows are on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Catherine Hickman Theater. Tickets are $15.

Battle of the Bands: Expect exuberant performances and music at the 27th annual event, based on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s quote, "Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice; say that I was a drum major for peace; I was a drum major for righteousness." The event is Sunday at 2 p.m. at Tropicana Field, in downtown St. Petersburg. Candlelight Vigil: Everyone is invited to a candlelight vigil in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 6:30 Sunday night at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African-American Museum, 2240 9th Ave S.

Three Day Weekend: All Pinellas County Public Schools do not have classes on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In addition to schools being closed, several local government offices will also be closed. Gulfport City Hall will be closed. It will be a regular trash day.
