5 Things to Know Today: Free Health Series, City Meetings Moved and Parking Fees

Free Health Series: Palms of Pasadena Hospital presents an informative presentation on pain management covering a different aspect each week: levels of pain and treatments, the role of nutrition and adaptive equipment, energy conservation, and joint protection. The free event is today at 1 p.m. at the Gulfport Senior Center, 5501 27th Ave S.
Meetings Moved: The next Gulfport City Council Meeting, on Tuesday, Jan. 17, will be at Gulfport City Hall. But every meeting after that, including the January Workshop, February and March meetings, will be held at the Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave S. Crews will be working on air-conditioning in the building during that time.
City Council Candidates Forum: The League of Women Voters will host a “Meet the Candidates” forum in February for the four city council candidates who will appear on the ballot in March. The city clerk should have more information at the next City Council Meeting, on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Fort De Soto Fees: Just a friendly reminder for your weekend plans. Visitors driving to Fort De Soto or Fred Howard will see new parking fees, which started on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Daily parking passes are $5 and are valid all day. The fees will be used for enhancements to the county’s parks and maintenance of the grounds and facilities. Annual parking passes will be available and can be purchased for $75. The price is reduced to $55 for senior citizens, 65 and older. Annual parking passes are available at the administrative offices of Fort De Soto and Parks and Conservation Resources office, 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo.
