Grades for Gulfport Elementary, Boca Ciega

Gulfport Elementary went from a "D" to a "C," and Boca Ciega High holds steady with a "C".

Florida's high schools increased in the number and percent of schools achieving high marks for the 2010-11 school year, according to results released this week from the Florida Department of Education.

Results show that 78 percent of Florida high schools earned ean "A" or "B" grade, an increase from 71 percent last year. These grades are based on the high school grading formula used for the first time in the 2009-10 school year.

Overall, Pinellas County Schools recieved a "B."

According to the report, the overall graduation rate for Boca Ciega High School has increased from 77 percent to 83 percent. The at-risk graduation rate also increased, but only by two percent from 60 percent to 62 percent in 2011.

Also according to the report:

  • 35% of students are meeting high standards in reading
  • 66% of students are meeting high standards in math
  • 74% of students are meeting high standards in writing
  • 30% of students are meeting high standards in science:
  • 41% of students are making gains in reading
  • 80% of students are making gains in math

According to the report for Gulfport Montessori Elementary:

  • 59% of students are meeting high standards in reading
  • 48% of students are meeting high standards in math
  • 81% of students are meeting high standards in writing
  • 37% of students are meeting high standards in science

Of Florida's 474 graded public high schools (including combination schools serving high school grade levels) earning "A" through "F" grades for the 2010-11 school year:

  • 147 earned an "A" (31%), compared to 145 schools (31%) last year.
  • 224 earned a "B" (47%), compared to 188 schools (40%) last year.
  • 72 earned a "C" (15%), compared to 69 schools (15%) last year.
  • 25 earned a "D" (5%), compared to 57 schools (12%) last year.
  • 6 earned an "F" (1%), compared to 11 schools (2%) last year.
