Gulfport Mayoral Candidate Asks For Your Vote

Welcome to our weekly series, "Candidate Question of the Week," on Gulfport Patch. We will be asking Sam Henderson, current Vice Mayor, and Bob Worthington, former City Councilor, a question each week until the City Elections on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

Both men are vying for your votes for Gulfport Mayor. This is our final question of the week.

Q: #7 "Why should voters choose you for Gulfport Mayor?"

"The voters of Gulfport should elect me as their next mayor because they continue to deserve the following: 1) meetings that are run efficiently and fairly, 2) the assurance that respectful public comment at meetings will always remain in place, 3) agendas designed to prioritize the issues we face as a city, 4) a mayor who is active in the community and in tune with the needs of Gulfport residents, and 5) a leader who is compassionate, informed, attentive and open to the input of the Gulfport public. Additionally, if there is anything I have consistently demonstrated over the last four years, it is that I will not bend to bullying nor will I sacrifice the best interests of our residents and business owners to outside interests looking to profit at our expense. I cannot promise you that everyone will always approve of every decision I make. No candidate can offer that. What I can promise is that I will give my best effort in every vote to do right by our city and our community. The position of Gulfport Mayor is an important and difficult job. It requires fortitude, patience and vision. I am confident in telling your readers that I am ready, willing and able to handle this task."

The municipal elections are on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. The mayor serves a three-year term. The voter registration deadline was Monday, February 11, 2013 for the next city elections.
