• Gulfport Officials Debate Sundown History and Apology (thegabber.com) — Gulfport’s City Council is wrestling with whether to acknowledge and apologize for the city’s alleged past as a sundown town, after residents pressed officials to address the issue. At the Dec. 16 meeting, council members and staff debated how much historical proof is needed, what an apology might imply, and whether a forward-looking welcome statement could better reflect today’s values. 
• Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber Opposes Tolls to the Beaches (thegabber.com) — Local business leaders are pushing back against a proposal to add tolls to all beach access bridges, warning it would hurt small businesses that serve Gulfport, South Pinellas, and nearby beaches. The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce argues tolls would burden workers, residents, and visitors, and is urging officials to find mobility solutions that protect local commerce and keep the beaches easily accessible.
• Pinellas County Deputies and Partner Agencies to Conduct County-Wide DUI Wolf Pack Operation (iontb.com) — Gulfport drivers should expect an increased DUI enforcement presence this weekend as the Gulfport Police Department joins a county-wide “Wolf Pack” operation from Saturday evening through early Sunday morning. Deputies and partner agencies will saturate Pinellas County’s busiest roads to deter impaired driving, honor a local DUI victim, and remind residents of the serious consequences of driving under the influence.
