La Cote Basque: Where Class Meets Good Food
The historic restaurant known as La Cote Basque has been in business for decades, and the key to success is no secret: It's in the food.
Since they can remember, Carmen and Simone Frohne have been a part of the family business. “They have worked side by side with their parents since they were very young,” said representative Pat Dunham.
Learning the tricks of the trade and mastering recipes from generations past, the girls became the ultimate team. La Cote Basque was the family business and they would eventually inherit the venue.
Today, the family-owned and -operated restaurant draws a crowd. On holidays, reservations are a must because of the high demand for a La Cote Basque meal.
The French cuisine that La Cote Basque offers is authentic and hard to come by. From veal and lasagna to rack of lamb and chicken cordon bleu, the menu boasts originality and taste. “It’s amazing that a restaurant can do as much as they do,” added Dunham.
Another quality that sets La Cote Basque apart from other establishments is the hospitality. “La Cote Basque is considered to be more of a dining experience,” said Dunham.
La Cote Basque is not the type of place to “eat and run.” Some patrons spend hours enjoying the atmosphere, the food and beverages from the lengthy beer and wine menu.
Although times have changed, La Cote Basque stays true to its roots. A lot of the menu options reflect the traditions taught to the Frohne sisters. There must be something special about the recipes, because La Cote Basque’s clientele has remained steady despite the shaky economy.
“While businesses are opening and closing in the blink of an eye, here’s a business that has people lined up to get in,” said Dunham.
