Man Killed In Gulfport Shooting Identified

Gulfport Police say a person of interest has been identified in a July 4 shooting that left a man dead.

GULFPORT, FL — As the Gulfport Police Department continues to investigate a July 4 shooting that left a 31-year-old man dead, authorities have released some details in the case.

The incident that led to Joshua Allen Monroe’s death occurred around 10:35 p.m. Tuesday outside a home in the 2600 block of Miriam Street South. Police say Monroe was shot several times and died from his injuries at a local hospital.

A suspect in the case has not been announced, but police say leads have been developed and detectives are “following up with a person of interest.” Authorities have not released details about the person of interest.

It is believed Monroe knew the person who shot him, a media release from the agency said.

The investigation into the shooting remains active. Further details are not being released.
