People Magazine Recognizes Military Veteran's Work With VETSports

Brian Taylor Urruela of VETSports is honored. He was the key player behind the Inaugural Beach Volleyball Benefit for a fallen hero.

Military veteran Brian Taylor Urruela’s work with  VETSports, a  sports league, is honored this week by People Magazine.

Urruela, who is from Tampa, lost his leg while serving in the Army, when a roadside bomb exploded.  The magazine notes his work since 2012 developing VETSports, which now has chapters across the nation.

VETSports is familiar to folks in Gulfport because of the benefit that Urruela organized for a fallen hero. The VETSports Vice President helped raise money for veterans and his friend, Major David Taylor, who was killed in action in Iraq.

Urruela was the key player behind the Inaugural Beach Volleyball Benefit. Members of the Gulfport Police Department and Fire Department faced off against veterans with VETSports to help raise money for the non-profit wounded vets.

People Magazine is honoring Brian Taylor Urruela for his work.

According to People Magazine: "His work is so inspiring that readers voted him one of 30 everyday heroes through PEOPLE and Major League Baseball’s Tribute for Heroes campaign."
