Pinellas County Cold Shelters Open Tonight

Gulfport's only cold shelter, Trinity Church of the Nazarene, will open it's doors tonight to provide a warm meal and a warm place to stay for the homeless.

Temperatures are expected to dip to 44 Monday night with a wind chill causing Pinellas County to feel even colder. Wind chill values will be as low as 35 with a north, northwest wind between 13 and 23 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Tuesday will be even colder with a low around 38 and wind chill values as low as 31.

Given the hazardous conditions, emergency officials have activated cold shelters in Pinellas County. Gulfport's cold shelter at Trinity Church of the Nazarene is the city's only shelter.

Men and women are asked to check in between 6 and 8:00 p.m. Doors are then locked and guests are allowed to stay overnight until about 6:30 the next morning.
