Ribbon Cutting Reveals Art on Beach Boulevard

Installations by two local artists, Owen Pach and Frank Strunk III, were presented to the city on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's sunny skies painted a picture perfect atmosphere for an art dedication on Beach Blvd. Two Gulfport artists were commissioned to create signature pieces of work that would be used as welcome markers at the northern tip of the strip.

Leslie Gilchrist, President of the Gulfport Merchants Association, decided to give something back to the neighborhoodΒ withΒ last year's Geckofest proceeds.

"We really felt like we wanted to thank the city and the community," said Gilchrist during Saturday's presentation.

The artists selected were and . Both parties were elated to be a part of the process and even helped Mayor Mike Yakes cut the ribbons.

A large group of supporters came out to rally on the unveiling. The artists seemed flattered and pleased by the turn out.

"I love Gulfport, I love what it's about," said Strunk during his speech. "And I love working here."

Pach echoed in agreeance with Strunk while saying a few words of his own. "I'm proud to be a part of this community," said Pach. "I'm overwhelmed by the outreach and the support of my friends."

After Mayor Mike Yakes spoke a closing piece, the artists helped cut the ribbon on each of the structures. Cheers rang out from the crowd that had gathered.

A reception was held in the "Alley of the Arts"Β at 5437 29th Ave S.
