Gulfport Senior Center's Memorial Site Coming Soon

A vacant wall outside the Gulfport Senior Center was recently made into an elaborate memorial space that will be up and running soon.

The construction of a memorial has taken over a year to complete, but after a few final decisions are made, the area will be ready for the public. A space on the east side of the Gulfport Senior Center was "just a bare wall with nothing going on," according to Senior Center Supervisor, Sue Frank.

A collaborative effort among the Senior Center Foundation members was the starting point for the creation of the memorial. The overall process up to this point has taken more than a year.

"We wanted to create a spot where people could come, be outdoors and reflect," said Frank.

Benches were installed to the area, while a brand new brick pathway and brightly tiled wall complete the scene.

On the tiles, residents can purchase a portion of a tile (third, half, etc.) with an "in memory of" or "in honor of" message. It is important to note that the offer stands to the general public and is not exclusive to members of the Senior Center or Gulfport residents.

Prices for the tiles are still in the works, but in the near future they will be listed and up for grabs.
