Video: Senior Follies Bring Joy, Cheer and Holiday Greetings
The annual variety show was in full effect on Wednesday afternoon, giving a sold out crowd their money's worth of entertainment.
Hickman Theater’s 173 seats were full for Wednesday’s Joe Koehler Senior Follies Variety Show. Seniors strolled into the theater with smiles and anticipation of what promised to be a jolly good time.
This year, the event was held in two acts. The first included classic tunes like “The Christmas Song” and “Winter Wonderland.” After an intermission with holiday refreshments, the second act concluded the show with other hits like “Merry Christmas Darling” and “Mary, Did You Know?”
The Finale was a hit with the crowd. All of the performers took to the stage at one time, singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” About half way through the song, the group began to break off into the audience for hugs, well wishes and holiday greetings.
Len Mac hosted the variety show this year. He made light hearted jokes in between acts and kept the entertainers on their toes in the backstage area. Even though Mac hosted, he still performed and sang “Leroy, The Redneck Reindeer.”
Joe Koehler, former president of the Senior Follies group, would have been proud of his colleagues. 76-year-old Joe Koehler Senior passed away August 25, 2010. Koehler started the group in 2007.
The crew gave a heartfelt performance that would have turned Ebenezer Scrooge into a believer of the holiday spirit.
