World War II Vets Apply Now to Visit Memorials in D.C.
World War II veterans are encouraged to learn about the Honor Flight of West Central Florida and possibly visit the memorial built in their honor in Washington D.C.

World War II veterans gathered at the Gulfport Senior Center on Wednesday to hear about a group called the Honor Flight of West Central Florida. The organization is completely non-profit and hosts a number of trips to Washington, D.C., each year.
The purpose of the trip is to bring World War II soldiers to the nation's capital. They are treated as guests of honor, touring war memorials and other sites. For many of these aging war heroes, it may be their first and last trip to Washington, D.C.
The best part for the vets is that the trip is free. Guardians are volunteers who pay their own way (about $400) and are assigned to a veteran as a companion for the trip. The guardian option is open, so that anyone can sign up.
