• Jacksonville's 163rd traffic fatality of 2025 happened Friday night on New Kings Road. 36 have involved pedestrians (news4jax.com) — A man was struck and killed Friday night on New Kings Road near I-295, becoming Jacksonville’s 163rd traffic fatality and 36th pedestrian death of 2025. Investigators say there was no visible crosswalk in the area, and local safety experts warn Jacksonville’s pedestrian crash numbers remain unusually high compared with the rest of Florida.
   

• 38-year-old man dies after pickup truck crash on I-295 (actionnewsjax.com) — A 38-year-old Jacksonville man died Saturday after losing control of his pickup on I-295 near Wilson Boulevard, hitting a guardrail and concrete pillar before the truck caught fire. Florida Highway Patrol says he was pronounced dead at the scene, and the crash shut down part of a major Jacksonville commuter route.
   

• Tentative deal reached between hockey league and union players, ECHL says (firstcoastnews.com) — A tentative labor deal in the ECHL means Jacksonville Icemen players are expected to return to the ice soon after a strike forced a game postponement. The agreement still needs approval from both the league’s Board of Governors and the players’ union, which has pushed for better health protections, equipment safety, and improved working conditions.
