Two men thrown from wrecked car die at I-4 crash location: Troopers

The Florida Highway Patrol has not been able to identify the driver of the car. The other victim was identified.

POLK COUNTY, FL — Two men were killed in a crash Monday night on Interstate — 4 in Polk County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The car that had the two men sped along I-4 eastbound near County Road 557 at about 9:25 p.m. A van drove in the westbound direction along I-4 at the same time. Driver in the car eventually lost control of the car, which caused it to cross the median into a construction area that didn't have barriers, investigators said. The car continued to slide across into the westbound lanes of Interstate-4. Shortly after, it smashed into the right side of the van. The driver of the car and the passenger were thrown from the car.

Both men died at the crash location, deputies said. The driver has not been identified. The passenger was a 30-year-old man from Kissimmee. The 31-year-old van driver of Cape Coral experienced minor injuries, and the 37-year-old van passenger of Cape Coral was last listed in critical condition.
