3rd Hurricane Irma Victim Reported In Polk County

The New Port Richey man had been evacuated to Lakeland to escape the storm.

LAKELAND, FL — A 77-year-old man died Sept. 17 from injuries he suffered during Hurricane Irma, according to the District 10 Medical Examiner's Office.

Harvey Wallace Friedman of New Port Richey fell and broke his hip at Azalea Park, an assisted living facility in Polk County, on Sept. 11. The power was out at the facility at that time due to Irma. The Pasco County man had been evacuated to the Lakeland facility to escape the storm. The facility was being used as a hurricane shelter during Irma.

Friedman died at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center on Sept. 17 from injuries suffered during the fall, the medical examiner's office said.
