A Pasco County man has been arrested in connection with a March 19 shooting that left a Lakeland man injured.

DADE CITY, FL — The Dade City Police Department has announced an arrest in a March 19 shooting that left a 27-year-old Lakeland man injured.

According to police, Loren Lee Harris, 30, turned himself into authorities around 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30. Harris now faces attempted murder, shooting a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, carrying a firearm during a felony, discharging a firearm in public and aggravated battery charges.

As of Friday morning, Harris was being held in the Land O’ Lakes Jail without bond.

The case against Harris unfolded around 2 a.m. March 19 when police say Harris was delivering an ounce of marijuana to several people in the parking lot of Villas Apartments on Meridian Avenue in Dade City. The people were in a Kia in the parking lot when they saw Harris pull up and park about 10 feet away, an arrest report said.

Adrian Deion Holmes of Lakeland got out of the Kia to speak with Harris, the report said.

“At some point, the victim became upset with the defendant over the narcotics transaction that was not progressing as promised,” the report said.

Holmes, police said, showed Harris “the large wad of cash” he had in his pocket, but Harris reportedly did not proceed with the sale. Police say Holmes took Harris’ wallet and went back to the Kia, telling the driver, “let’s go.”

Harris, however, got out of his car and approached the Kia. When he did, police say he began to shoot at the car. Holmes was struck by one of the bullets.

Holmes was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries after the incident. He has since been released and is recovering at home, police said on Friday.

No further information is available at this time.
