Bicyclist Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver; Polk Sheriff Seeks Tips

WINTER HAVEN, FL — A bicyclist has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver Saturday night near Winter Haven.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the bicyclist entered the intersection of Winter Lake Road (State Road 540) and Thornhill Road with a red light.

One driver avoided hitting the bicyclist, but a second car crashed into the cyclist and then fled on Winter Lake Road.

Polk County Fire Rescue arrived at 9:24 and took the bicyclist to the hospital where he later died.

The hit-and-run driver was in a gray or dark-colored sedan that may have damage to the front end and side window.
