Boca Raton Man Killed In Crash Involving Lakeland Police SUV
A 52-year-old Boca Raton man died following a crash Tuesday morning involving a Lakeland police officer.
LAKELAND, FL — A 52-year-old Boca Raton man died following a crash Tuesday morning involving a Lakeland police officer.
At 6:09 a.m., a silver F-150 pickup truck driven by Troy Davison of Boca Raton was traveling north on South Florida Avenue, approaching the intersection of Belmar Street.
At the same time, a marked Lakeland Police Department SUV was headed south on South Florida Avenue and, behind it, a Mitsubishi SUV.

According to a witness, the Ford truck began to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed, entering the center lane against the solid yellow, no-passing lane. The truck collided with the police SUV and then the Mitsubishi.
The F-150 continued traveling north a short distance before crashing into the Waller Center building.

The Lakeland Police Department, Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department arrived on the scene and began life-saving measures but the driver of the pickup truck died at the scene.
The police officer, Andrea Smith, and driver of the Mitsubishi, Lebrun Washington, 59 of Austell, Georgia, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
