COVID-19 Suspends Fall Sports At Florida Southern College

Florida Southern College in Lakeland said it has suspended all of its fall sports after three athletes tested positive for coronavirus.

LAKELAND, FL — Fall sports' activities at Florida Southern College in Lakeland have been put on hold because three lacrosse players on its men's team tested positive for the coronavirus, the college's athletic department said on Thursday.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the college has paused all athletics activity while the men's lacrosse team is tested," athletic director Drew Howard said.

The athletic department said the entire men's lacrosse team is getting tested, and its next step in regard to moving forward with fall sports will be determined by the coronavirus test results.

Howard said that since the pandemic began, the athletic department has been focused on the safety of its athletes by following the Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
