Driver Accused Of Leaving Scene Of Fatal Crash In Polk: Cops

A Plant City man who was in a deadly wreck on US Hwy 17 with three vehicles Wednesday night in Bartow faces multiple charges.

POLK COUNTY, FL — Deputies arrested a 46-year-old Plant City man that is accused of leaving the location of a fatal crash Wednesday night on US Highway 17.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Edy Juarez Granados, was in a crash with three vehicles at 6:10 p.m. in Bartow on U.S. 17 near the State Road 640 intersection

A 21-year-old male of Jacksonville, North Carolina, was killed in the crash, authorities said.

A passenger in the victim's 2006 Infiniti G35 had a broken leg and cuts from the crash, deputies said.

Granados faces the following charges, according to deputies:

  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.
  • Driving with no valid license.

Deputies said dash camera video from the commercial dump truck that was involved in the crash showed Granados lost control of his Nissan Frontier truck on rainy roads as he drove northbound on US 17.

Granados truck slid over the median and spun into the southbound lane near CR-640, deputies said.

The Frontier hit the victim's Infiniti causing it to slide onto the northbound side crashing into the dump truck and a Jeep, deputies said.

Granados is then accused of driving away from the crash location, deputies said.

Deputies found Granados and the Frontier at a home in Plant City where he was arrested, the sheriff said.

Granados was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail without bond and will be extradited to the Polk County Jail.
