Four Teens Injured In Bonfire Explosion: Polk County Fire Rescue

Four teenagers were injured in a backyard bonfire explosion on Thursday night, Polk County Fire Rescue said.

POLK CITY, FL — Four teenagers were injured in a backyard explosion in Polk City Thursday night, Polk County Fire Rescue said.

The teens built a bonfire in the 8900 block of Hammock loop before 7:37 p.m., and one of them poured gasoline on it, officials said.

One teen was a trauma alert flown to Tampa General Hospital. Two others were also taken to Tampa General and the fourth was taken to Lakeland Regional.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fire.
