Lakeland Bicyclist Killed In Pileup Involving 3 Vehicles

A 64-year-old Lakeland man was killed Sunday when the bicycle he was riding was struck in the 2800 block of U.S. 98 North​.

LAKELAND, FL — A 64-year-old Lakeland man was killed Sunday when the bicycle he was riding was struck in the 2800 block of U.S. 98 North.

According to Lakeland police, the crash occurred at 5:38 p.m. when a 2005 Honda sedan driven by Daniel Eli Viana Age, 36, of Beverly Hills made a right turn into a business and struck the bicycle.

The Honda then swerved and struck a 2019 BMW driven by Cody Allen Dawson, 24, of Lakeland. The Honda then spun out, crossed the center median and entered the northbound lanes of U.S. 98 North, hitting a 2015 Dodge truck driven by Adam Richard Chandler, 44, of Zephyrhills. The Honda finally stopped after hitting a curb and landing in a grassy field.

The Lakeland Police Department, Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department attempted to save the bicyclist's life but he died at the scene. The bicyclist's name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Honda and a passenger in the Dodge truck were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
