The musical comedy is an adaptation of Mel Brooks' film of the same name.

LAKELAND, FL – If you’re blue and you don’t know where to go to, why don’t you go where fashion sits? Or, you can go see the opening of the Lakeland Community Theatre’s 31st season.

The Main Stage theater kicks off Friday, Oct. 14 in hilarious Halloween style with “Young Frankenstein,” a musical adaptation of the 1974 Mel Brooks movie. Brooks also co-wrote the 2007 Broadway adaptation, as well as the music and lyrics.

With a few exceptions and a few more musical numbers added, the plot of “Young Frankenstein” stays true to the original film.

The grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein, begrudgingly returns to his ancestral home in Transylvania to settle his grandfather’s estate. As a noted brain specialist, Frederick Frankenstein has tried to remove all ties to his family, going so far as changing the pronunciation of his name to “Fronkensteen.”

After reading over his grandfather’s notes, the young Frankenstein has a change of heart and continues the mad scientist’s work. After successfully reanimating the famed monster, Frankenstein works to turn it into a gentleman. Frankenstein then spends the rest of the musical dealing with the repercussions of the failed experiment.
