Lakeland To Host Meeting On New York Avenue Cycle Track

The proposed cycle track will eliminate two-way driving on a portion of New York Avenue.

LAKELAND, FL – The City of Lakeland will host a public meeting regarding a proposed cycle track along New York Avenue from West Main Street to Lime Street on Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Commissioners' Chambers, 228 S. Massachusetts Ave.

The project is expected to include:

  • Modification of New York Avenue to include a two-way cycle track in the existing southbound lane, limiting vehicle traffic to one-way northbound
  • Construction of a traffic separator
  • Construction of streetscape to include paver sidewalk and decorative street lighting
  • Conversion of the intersections at New York Avenue at West Lemon Street and New York Avenue at West Orange Street from north-south stop-control to east-west stop-control
  • Construction of an 8-foot wide pathway on the north side of Lime Street between Sikes Boulevard and South New York Avenue
  • Enhanced landscaping along the north side of West Orange Street

The meeting will present the 60 percent design and obtain input from elected and appointed officials, property owners and tenants, business owners and operators, and other interested parties. The open house format will begin at 6 p.m.

City planners and engineering staff will be available to discuss the project, receive input and answer questions. Display board and other visual aids depicting the project will be available.
