Lakeland Man, 25, Killed In Hardee County Crash

A 25-year-old Lakeland motorcyclist was killed in a Wednesday crash in Hardee County.

LAKELAND, FL — A Sarasota man was cited in a Wednesday afternoon crash in Hardee County that left a 25-year-old Lakeland man dead.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Philip Lamar Kinsey, 66, was heading east on State Road 62 in a Chevrolet Silverado around 7:29 a.m. May 3. At that time, a Yamaha driven by Jose Alberto Silva was heading east on State Road 62.

Silva, a patrol report said, was passing “vehicles in a lawful passing zone coming up behind” Kinsey’s vehicle.

Kinsey, the report said, turned left from State Road 62 toward John Gill Road in front of Silva’s bike. The motorcycle struck the left side of the truck, the report said.

Silva was pronounced dead at the scene, the agency noted.

Kinsey was cited for failing to yield right of way while making a left turn.
