Lakeland Man Killed When Struck By Hit-And-Run Vehicle On U.S. 98

LAKELAND, FL — Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff's Office are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on U.S. 98 near Innovation Drive in Lakeland.

On Saturday at 7:15 a.m., Polk deputies and Polk County Fire Rescue responded to a report of a person laying on the east should of U.S. 98.

The preliminary investigation found that, between midnight and 7 a.m. Saturday, a 43-year-old Lakeland man was walking north along the edge of the northbound lane when he was struck by what investigators believe in a late-1990s to mid-2000s General Motors truck or SUV. Investigators said there may be damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle.
