Lakeland Man Shot And Killed In Revenge: Police

A suspect is accused of killing a man he knew and thought shot at his home, the Lakeland Police Department said.

POLK COUNTY, FL — A 20-year-old Lakeland man was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder after Lakeland police accused him of shooting a 20-year-old man on Nov. 6.

According to the Lakeland Police Department, the suspect, Jaishawn Broome, had an ongoing dispute with the 20-year-old victim, who he thought had shot at his home prior to the Nov. 6 incident.

Before 1:45 a.m., a driver of a white Audi shot at three men sitting inside a gray Nissan Altima at the intersection of Kathleen Road and George Jenkins Boulevard, investigators said.

Shortly after, the Audi was abandoned near Candyce Avenue with two guns inside, law enforcement officials said.

A 19-year-old and 20-year-old in the Nissan were injured and taken to Lakeland Regional. The third man in the car didn't experience any injuries.

The 20-year-old victim died from gunshot wound injuries on Nov. 10, detectives said.

The 19-year-old was treated and released from the hospital.

Police said they issued a search warrant for Broome's house, and found items related to the guns found in the abandoned Audi. It was also discovered that Broome had recently rented the Audi from a friend for a few days.

Broome was taken to the Hernando County Jail on Nov. 30, and is waiting to be extradited to the Polk County Jail.
