Lakeland Pawn Shop Catches Fire Over Weekend

LAKELAND, FL — Smoke was billowing from the rear of Cash of America Pawn as flames licked the business over the weekend when first responders arrived on the scene, according to Capt. Matt Brown of the Lakeland Fire Department.

The fire broke out around 10:33 p.m. Saturday at the pawn shop which is located at 4694 Highway 98 North.

"Fire crews forced entry into the structure and battled fire and dense smoke," said Brown. "The fire was brought under control in less than 40 minutes."

Fire crews also forced entry into Buddy's Home Furnishings next door. First responders found moderate smoke in that business and set up ventilation fans.

Some 11 Lakeland Fire Department units, a Polk County Fire Rescue Medic Unit as well as patrol units from the Lakeland Police Department responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
