First-Degree Murder Charge Filed in Lakeland Shooting: Police
The Lakeland Police Department has arrested a man who allegedly killed a 49-year-old following an argument.
LAKELAND, FL — A 28-year-old man of Lakeland allegedly shot and killed a 49-year-old victim on Monday before 5 p.m., a police news release said.
The suspect, Jaques Nelson, got into an argument with the victim in front of a home in 600 block of Emma Street, investigators said.
Nelson is accused by Lakeland police of shooting the victim multiple times following the argument. The suspect left the area but later returned to the location as authorities were investigating, detectives said.

According to authorities, he did admit to being in the area but denied being involved in the shooting. Nelson was arrested and faces charges of first degree murder.

The 49-year-old died of his injuries at Lakeland Regional Health, law enforcement officials said.
