According to preliminary findings by Polk sheriff's investigators, Walling was driving a white 2007 Honda motorcycle east on Martin Luther King Boulevard when a white 2005 Ford Expedition heading west made a left turn onto Jewett Street to enter the Buckeye Ridge neighborhood, and crossed in front of Walling’s motorcycle, which had the right-of-way.

Walling was thrown from the motorcycle and slid under the front part of the Ford Expedition. He was not wearing a helmet.
