ORLANDO, FL — An Orange County Sheriff’s deputy was shot in the line of duty Tuesday while working in the Orlando area.
Sgt. Richard Stelter, 45, was shot several times while attempting to serve a warrant on Christopher Redding Jr., 20, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Stelter was one of four deputies working surveillance in the 5000 block of Picadilly Circus Court when the incident occurred shortly before noon, the agency said. Redding, who was wanted on violation of probation and robbery charges, opened fire first, Sheriff Jerry Demings said.
