Pickup Truck Crashes Into Lakeland Home, Killing 24-Year-Old Man

LAKELAND, FL — A 24-year-old man was killed when a Dodge Durango traveling south on Longfellow Boulevard crashed into a home Monday.

At 4:12 p.m., Lakeland police said a 2016 Dodge Durango driven by Alexander Dalton Collins, 27, of Lakeland, was traveling south on Longfellow Boulevard, approaching the intersection of North Crystal Lake Drive. The driver of the truck failed to stop at the stop sign and continued across North Crystal Lake Drive, striking two signposts before crashing into the occupied home in the 2100 block of North Crystal Lake Drive, killing a 24-year-old man inside the house.

The Lakeland Police Department, Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department began life-saving measures but the man was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Durango and two other people inside the home did not require medical treatment.

The intersection was shut down for approximately five hours while the scene was processed. At this time, the victim's name is not being released.
