Polk County Family Wants Bulldozer Driver Charged: Report

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said there was no evidence that the bulldozer driver purposely ran over a landfill worker.

POLK COUNTY, FL — The family of a man who was killed by a bulldozer at Polk County North Central Landfill on March 4 wants the operator of the bulldozer to face charges.

Aaron Henderson, who worked for CartiTemp, was inside a porta-potty during his work shift when a bulldozer ran over him and killed him, according to WTSP.

A spokesperson, Carlo Soto, representing the family told the TV newsoutlet that employees operating heavy machinery go through training, and Henderson's family doesn't believe the driver fulfilled all necessary safety measures when he drove the bulldozer.

"There should've been no reason that this bulldozer operator decided to operate this bulldozer without a spotter, alone," Soto said.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office told WFLA that the unnamed bulldozer driver was moving his rig to park it at the end of the workday when he turned and heard a crumbling sound as he rolled over the porta-potty.

Deputies said the blade of the bulldozer was elevated and blockedthe front view of the rig, and authorities said the driver was unaware of the porta-potty inside the staging area.

The TV station said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told them that there was no evidence of criminality, however that does not mean that someone could not pursue civil litigation to address workplace protocols that led to Henderson's desk.
