Polk County Schools To Close Thursday; 7 Sandbag Sites Open Wednesday
Polk County public schools will close Thursday in anticipation of Hurricane Nicole and the county is opening sandbag sites Wednesday.

POLK COUNTY, FL — As Polk County public schools take Thursday off due to Hurricane Nicole, the potential for more flooding in Polk County has prompted emergency disaster officials to make sandbags available at roadway maintenance units Wednesday, Nov. 9 only, because the storm is expected to make landfall by Thursday.
These locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Mulberry – 900 NE 5th St., Mulberry
- Lakeland – 8970 N. Campbell Road, Lakeland
- Fort Meade – 1061 NE 9th St., Fort Meade
- Frostproof – 350 County Road 630A, Frostproof
- Auburndale – 1701 Holt Road, Auburndale
- Dundee – 805 Dr. Martin Luther King St. SW, Dundee
- Poinciana Park - corner of Lake Hatchineha Road and Marigold Avenue.
A maximum of 10 sandbags will be provided to each household to help prevent water intrusion into the home.
Polk County began pulling staff off hurricane debris removal Tuesday to start prepping for sandbag distribution at the maintenance units tomorrow.
