ICYMI: Publix Free Deli Slices Still On The Menu

Publix has made a few changes to its deli sample program, but that doesn't mean free slices are off the menu entirely.

LAKELAND, FL — Floridians who find shopping at Publix is a pleasure partially due to the free samples offered can breathe a sigh of relief. The Lakeland-based grocery chain has not stopped offering free treats from its delis, but it has mixed things up a bit.

“We are piloting a change in a few dozen of our delis,” Publix spokesman Brian West explained. “In these locations, as our deli associates greet our customers they will offer a slice of the cheese of the week.”

That change from deli meat to cheese had some long-time customers concerned the store's tradition was coming to an end. That's simply not so, West said.

All locations in the pilot are still offering free deli meat samples, West said. But, there’s a small catch: customers have to ask.

“Whether it’s a sample of the item you’re ordering, or just something new you’d like to try, we’re always happy to offer free slices so that our customers can try new things.”

West said the Cheese of the Week pilot is running at some Publix locations in central and southwest Florida.
