Red, White & Kaboom In Lakeland To Donate Food To Polk's Elderly

If you're heading out to Lakeland's Red, White & Kaboom in July, you'll have the opportunity to help our elderly in need by donating food.

LAKELAND, FL — Lakeland's annual Red, White, & Kaboom has released its July 4 celebration schedule via the city's website. It's also providing ways to help the elderly in our community.

Live music, food trucks, firework shows, community gatherings and street closures will take place at Lake Mirror on July 3.

The Polk County community will have an opportunity to bring non-perishable food and canned items to benefit Volunteers In Service To The Elderly (VISTE), according to the city's website.

“We are very excited to sponsor Red, White & Kaboom again this year and I know the community is looking forward to an awesome event," said Tom Mims, President of T. Mims Corporation. "It is an excellent opportunity for our community to come together in celebration of our great country with live music and fireworks.”

“We ask all those attending to please bring a canned food item that will help those in need. All non-perishable items benefit Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE). We want everyone to have fun and help support a great cause like VISTE.”

VISTE is a community-based non-profit organization serving Lakeland, Bartow, Mulberry, and Ft. Meade, according to the VISTE website.

"Established in 1983, the primary goal is to enable elderly persons to continue living independently and safely in their own homes," its website said.

VISTE Said Some Of Their Most Requested Items Include

  • Canned soup
  • Canned tomatoes
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned chicken
  • Canned tuna
  • Pasta
  • Ground coffee
  • Canned beans
  • Any nonperishables
