HAINES CITY, FL — A Ring video released by the Haines City Police Department shows why you should get in the habit of locking your car doors at night.

The video, which is only a few seconds long, shows a man casually trying car door handles in the Hidden Lake subdivision early Sunday morning.

When one door didn't open the man moved on to another door and then jogged away.

The 15-year-old was also charged with fleeing to elude and misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon after a search turned up brass knuckles.

Police were called at 5:15 a.m. Sunday when one of the homeowners was alerted by a home surveillance camera. This victim called police as the suspects took off on a four-wheeler.

"We can't overstate the importance of locking your homes and vehicles and that's why we encourage our residents to do that each and every night," Haines City Police Chief Jim Elensky said. "I commend the residents who took measures to secure their property and those who were able to provide surveillance footage will be a significant help throughout this active investigation."

Police set up a perimeter in the area while a drone and K-9 were deployed. The Polk County Sheriff's Office's air unit also assisted.

"The drone located a juvenile riding his four-wheeler in an orange grove. The three were ultimately detained and arrested," Haines City police said. "Throughout the course of the investigation, police obtained footage that shows the suspects attempting to break into 15 different vehicles."

Police said entry was made to at least one vehicle.

"This was outstanding police work from the top down," Elensky said. "Our decision last year to acquire a drone continues to pay dividends. I'm so proud of our supervisors, officers, detectives, our friends at the sheriff's office and residents who had a part in this case."
