Rob Bluey-If President Trump and Republicans Don’t Pivot Rapidly They’ll Lose 2024 Advantage

L. A. "Tony" Kovach: President Trump Should Have a Fireside Chat with American People and Lay It Out Like It IS, or 2026 Could Be UGLY

(Base image credits are as shown. Text and collage credits are to this writer for MHProNews and this Patch.)

I'm a political independent for a reason. Dan Bongino is working at the FBI now instead of being a talk radio and podcast personality.

While he was on the radio, Bongino would periodically say words to this effect.

'Republicans may not be the solution to all of your problems, but Democrats are the cause of your problems.'

Then there is the saying by Relevant Radio's Drew Mariani.

I don't follow the donkey. I don't follow the elephant. I follow the Lamb.

Those two quotes/paraphrases ought to speak volumes to THINKING people.

Our family and our platforms (MHProNews/MHLivingNews) have supported President Trump's campaign 3 times. We'd do so again, given the exact same choices. Given who then candidate, now President Donald J. Trump was running against, it was an EASY choice. That said, the president is not Jesus Christ. POTUS Trump does not walk on water. He is smart, he can be an effective (maybe not stylish, but effective) communicator. Our nation is facing BIG problems. The answer is not to run back to the party that contributed the most to them.

That's not to let Republicans off the hook. More on that in Part II.

Trump’s Economic Advantage Is Disappearing Fast

Rob Bluey | November 11, 2025

Rob Bluey is president and executive editor of The Daily Signal. Send an email to Rob.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, pollster Scott Rasmussen predicted that voters would pick their preferred candidate based on how they perceived their personal finances.

Needless to say, it didn’t go well for Kamala Harris.

Four years of rising prices and record-high inflation doomed the Democrat ticket—even though Joe Biden wasn’t on the ballot. Harris didn’t help herself when she flubbed a softball question from Sunny Hostin and couldn’t come up with anything she’d do differently from Biden. Voters responded by handing President Donald Trump a commanding victory.

The Daily Signal depends on the support of readers like you. Donate now

At the time, only 24% of voters said their personal finances were improving, according to RMG Research’s polling for the Napolitan Institute. Conversely, 41% said their personal finances were getting worse.

“People’s perception of whether their personal finances are improving is the single most important indicator of how they will vote,” Rasmussen told me last year, shortly before Election Day.

Fast forward to 2025 and it’s now Trump who is facing his own challenges on the economy, which remains the single most important issue on the minds of Americans. Rasmussen asked the question again last week and found that just 26% of respondents think their personal finances are improving compared to 39% who say they’re getting worse.

Americans haven’t been this pessimistic since they elected Trump to clean up the Biden-Harris mess.

If these poll numbers aren’t already a warning sign for Trump and Republicans in Congress, they need to recognize the threat. The window will quickly close on the GOP’s governing agenda, putting their political prospects in peril ahead of next year’s midterms.

Democrats are already salivating at the prospect of turning Trump’s economic advantage into a liability. Look no further than last week’s elections in New Jersey and Virginia, where Democrats Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger used voters’ economic anxiety against their Republican rivals—and won decisive victories as a result. The outcome was even worse for Republicans in the Virginia House of Delegates, where Democrats will have at least 64 of the 100 seats in January.

Even more alarming, New York City voters elected an unabashed socialist who promised to make affordability the centerpiece of his agenda as mayor. When have socialists ever made anything affordable? It didn’t matter.

In response to Zohran Mamdani’s win, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy warned his fellow Republicans to take notice.

“Our side needs to focus on affordability,” Ramaswamy said in a viral social media video. “Make the American dream affordable. Bring down costs—electric costs, grocery costs, health care costs and housing costs—and lay out how we’re going to do it.”

Rasmussen attributed some of voters’ economic anxiety to the government shutdown, which began Oct. 1 and is nearing an end this week.

“This is a stunning collapse in confidence, coming as more and more people feel the impact of the government shutdown,” Rasmussen told The Daily Signal. “We have been tracking this measure of economic confidence for years because it is the most important political indicator for any election cycle. People were very pessimistic throughout the Biden era, but pessimism began to decline as soon as Trump won the election. Now, all of those gains have been wiped out and voters are just as pessimistic about their finances as they were on the even of the 2024 election.”

Trump, to his credit, has turned his attention to the economy in recent days. Tuesday night, during an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle,” host Laura Ingraham pressed the president on the subject.

“The economy is my thing,” Trump said on Fox News. “And we have the greatest economy in history.”

He then chided his fellow Republicans for failing to tout the economic success stories—from lower gas prices to the cost of a Thanksgiving meal.

“The Democrats give false talk and the Republicans, and I say it all the time, Republicans have to talk about the fact that prices are down,” Trump said.

Using the bully pulpit is one way to convince Americans that things are improving, but Trump can’t do it alone. There’s certainly no time to waste. Another poll from the Napolitan Institute this week found voter sentiment heading in the wrong direction with 39% believing we’re already in a recession.

The question isn’t whether the economy matters—the polls make that abundantly clear. The question is whether Republicans can turn sentiment around before voters hand Democrats an opportunity to stymie Trump’s agenda.

Just as Biden-Harris paid the price for inflation and stagnation, Trump now faces the same reckoning. The economy remains the unmistakable kingmaker in American politics—and right now, it’s sending a warning the GOP cannot ignore.

This story was updated with Trump’s comments on Fox News.

Part II

Let's go through a few facts.

According to Gemini, "The U.S. national debt at the end of Fiscal Year 2016 was approximately $19.57 trillion." According to Investopedia on this date (11.12.2025).

Key Takeaways

  • As of October 2025, the U.S. national debt was over $38 trillion.

So, the national debt has roughly doubled in 8 years. Obamacare is NOT the only problem, but it is a good symbol for what has gone wrong.

3 Jonathan Gruber Videos: Americans "Too Stupid to Understand" Obamacare. Gruber was the architect of the plan says lying ('lack of transparency') is how the plan got passed.

Several big insurance companies have made out like bandits. They were painted as the bad guys by candidate turned President Obama and Democrats. But the plan never worked as promised. It didn't save money. It cost more money.

Yours truly has said for years that just because someone says something that sounds appealing that doesn't make it true.

"Free" always sounds good.

But there is NO FREE stuff. Ever. Someone always pays. Someone always benefits when "free" is promised.

https://www.manufacturedhomeli...

Thomas Sowell explained briefly why Obamacare wouldn't work before it was ever passed.

https://www.manufacturedhomeli...

Think of government as a middleman. It can't give what it doesn't first take. What it takes requires manpower. That requires paychecks. Of course Obamacare, or any public health care systems, will cost more than if there was no government agencies involved.

President George W. Bush (R) and his now late Vice President Richard "Dick" Cheney (R) lied to the American people and that cost trillions of dollars. But President Barack Obama (D) and his VP Joe Biden (D) didn't end that war either. President Trump began that wind-down after blaming President Bush for starting it in the first place. That took guts.

There have been trillions of dollars spent on healthcare, more after Obamacare was passed than before. So, Thomas Sowell was correct. Sowell was a former socialist. He learned that socialism does not work as advertised.

Now, the 'green new deal' was always another smoke and mirrors issue. It has mostly been Democrats who have claimed that the world will come to an end unless we reduce the increase in the earth's temperature. It is simply not true. Even William "Bill" Gates III, a longtime Democratic supporter, finally came out recently and admitted that was a mistaken notion.

https://patch.com/florida/lake...

It isn't that your's truly is so dang smart, but yours truly reads a lot and reads across the left-right spectrum. God blessed me with parents that taught me how to think, how to analyze what someone says to see if it makes sense and to see if it is in keeping with God's will. No matter how great something sounds, if it isn't in keeping with God's will, we are wise to reject it.

The Bush-Obama-Biden years cost Americans huge piles of money. There was plenty of spending during Trump's first term in office too.

Too often weak kneed Republicans went along with Democrats for some 'political' reason. So, much (not all) of the problem has been Democrats, but Republicans have often failed to stand up and articulate the causes and solutions of the problems. In fairness, at times some Democrats will speak the truth on a tough topic too. I could go on, but that's enough to make this point.

Our federal debt is costly, as the chart above shows. Only Social Security (which is 'untouchable') costs more per year than the interest on the federal debt does.

President Trump is correct in saying that revenue must go up, spending must go down.

But there are complex dynamics moving, like the development of AI that is causing layoffs and are driving up electric costs. We should all, and I mean all of us should thank God that Trump is in office and not Kamala Harris, because Trump is willing to use traditional energy sources which cost less.

President Trump has to help Americans find the ways to save money where we can. Voters need to give the president and the GOP enough support to allow them to do what is necessary, while holding them accountable for when they goof up or seem poised to goof up.

Immigration (yes, legal immigration is still a big and costly deal) is a factor that keeps U.S. born wages lower than they should be. Legal and illegal immigration have driven up housing costs, according to FAIR. My wife and parents came legally to the U.S. I'm not against legal immigration, but we should allow it only when it makes practical sense for the good of the U.S. citizens.

Per an X post by Wall Street Apes.

“0:Why did housing get so unaffordable for American citizens? Two big problems

- Number one, I already talked about interest rates were too high
- Number two, you had way too many people in this country who are competing against American citizens for scarce homes, and that's the illegal immigration problem

Why has housing leveled off over the past six months? I really believe the main driver is you've had negative net migration into the United States for the first time in 60 years in this country.

You cannot flood the United States of America with 20, 30, 40 MILLION people who have no legal right to be here, have them compete against young American families for homes and not expect the price to skyrocket.

It's as simple as supply and demand. You increase the demand, you're going to increase the price.”

---

But there is more to the housing problem, as regular readers know. Without millions of more of the most-affordable kind of housing, modern manufactured homes, we can't solve the housing crisis. Conventional builders can't close the gap. Only factory-building can. 50 year mortgage is only marginally helpful, and could drive up existing housing costs if new supply isn't added. The bottom line, we need to allow existing federal laws to work that would make the production of modern manufactured homes possible. No new federal spending needed.

https://www.manufacturedhomeli...
https://patch.com/florida/lake...
https://manufacturedhousingass...

President Trump's 50 year mortgage is a risky gimick. I say that as a three time Trump supporter. President Trump, or J.D. Vance, need to have a 15 to 30 minute reality check at prime time on national TV. They should explain how we got into the economic jam Rob Bluey wrote about. They should explain that there is no free stuff (hey, we would all like 'free money' but it always comes with strings attached). President Trump should stop talking about giving money back from tariffs or anything else unless there is a compelling reason to do otherwise.

In the proposed 'fireside chat' the president or VP should say, look, there are lots of misunderstandings about manufactured homes, but decades of research is clear. Modern manufactured homes don't hurt the value of conventional housing. We've known that since at least the Obama-Biden era.

This is an issue that the Obama-Biden (D) Administration era at HUD explored in a useful, insightful report. That download is found at this link here. It specifically looked at manufactured homes sited next door to conventional housing and found that both forms of construction were appreciating in different cities in different parts of the U.S.

Freddie Mac research says most Americans would consider a manufactured home.

https://www.manufacturedhomeli...

It wouldn't be hard for the president or VP to explain why they need to enforce existing federal laws as MHARR has long advocated. The choice is sobering or promising, take your pick. Homelessness can continue to go up, because too many people can't afford a conventional house or rental. Homelessness has its own tragic scams.

https://www.manufacturedhomepr...

https://www.manufacturedhomepr...

There are Democrats who embrace manufactured housing just as there are Republicans that do.

Americans need affordable options. There is only so much you can save on food, clothing, shelter or transportation. The single biggest area that someone could save money is in housing.

See what this engineer has to say.
