Watch: Heroes Save Man Who Plunged Into Lake Silver

Two good Samaritans are getting the credit for saving a man whose vehicle plunged into Polk County's Lake Silver.

WINTER HAVEN, FL – A decision made by two men to dive into Lake Silver's waters to rescue a man trapped in a car stands a proof that good still exists in the world. That’s according to Winter Haven Police Chief Charlie Bird following a harrowing rescue made on Monday by two witnesses to a single-vehicle crash.

According to Bird, Torain Blue Jr., 25, was driving a Kia on First Street North around 6:50 p.m. April 3 when his car, for unknown reasons, ran off the road and into the lake.

Fortunately, for Blue, Charles Aaron, 60, and Chris Matthews, 46, witnessed the crash and took action. The two men, Bird said, dove right in and grabbed Blue from his sinking car.

Police and EMS were called to the scene, but quickly learned Aaron and Matthews had already done the heavy lifting, the police department reported in a Wednesday email to media.

Just to make certain he was OK, Blue was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, the agency noted.

“These citizens put their own safety aside and jumped into the water to save another human being,” Bird said. “This type of humanity from total strangers is proof that good is alive and well in our society.”
