Winter Haven Man Dies From Gun Shot At Apartment Complex: Sheriff

Detectives with the Polk County Sheriff's Office are asking for information from the public about a shooting death in Winter Haven.

WINTER HAVEN, FL — Detectives are seeking information from the public about a 30-year-old man who died Sunday after being shot at a Polk County apartment complex, deputies said.

The victim, Joshua Murray, of Winter Haven met with a person who drove a white Buick LaCross on Nov. 10 at an undisclosed location in Polk County, according to investigators.

"Investigators believe this was possibly drug related," the Winter Haven Police Department said.

Moments later, another person met up with Murray and the driver of the Buick, officials said.

The three men went behind an apartment building, detectives said.

A witness heard a scuffle and saw Murray and the Buick driver on the ground fighting, authorities said.

Officers said a Black man ran up to the two men as they fought and shot Murray.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for his injuries, according to investigators.

Murray died on Sunday, police said.

"Somebody knows something, saw something or has heard someone talking about the shooting," Chief Charlie Bird said. "We need anyone with information to come forward to help identify this killer."

There is a $3,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, authorities said.
