Car Wash, Pet Supply Drive Part Of Pine View’s Great Week of Service

The program helps the school's International Baccalaureate students give back to the community.

LAND O’ LAKES, FL – During Valentine’s Day week, the International Baccalaureate students at Pine View Middle School will be spreading love around Pasco County through community service.

The students will take part in the school’s first-ever Great Week of Service from Monday, Feb. 13 to Friday, Feb. 17. The program is designed to encourage students to give back to the community and to learn from and reflect on those experiences.

During the week, Pine View students will host a car wash for first responders, make tug toys and collect treats for the animals at Pasco County Animal Services, volunteer at Metropolitan Ministries, visit the Florida Pioneer Museum and mentor students at Cox Elementary School in Dade City.

The first-responders car wash will take place at Pine View, located at 5334 Parkway Blvd. in Land O’ Lakes, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily.

At the Florida Pioneer Museum in Dade City, the students will be assisting with much-needed cleaning projects. For example, students will be dusting items and cleaning display cases. In the church, students will clean wood surfaces.

“There are a dozen buildings that all need regular TLC both inside and out,” according to the school. “Students will help beautify the outside of buildings by knocking down cobwebs on the porches and around windows carefully with a broom. While they are doing all of these things to help maintain the many buildings of the Pioneer Museum, they will see countless interesting items and learn about the history of our area.”

Because sweeping is such a large chore there, the Pine View Middle School National Junior Honor Society is donating brooms to the museum for future use as part of the volunteer efforts.

For the car wash, the treat drive and the tug toys, which the students will be making in art classes during the week, Pine View Middle is seeking the following donations:

  • Clean, old towels and T-shirts (to make the tug toys)
  • Pup-Peroni and/or Milk-Bone dog treats
  • Temptations cat treats
  • Carwash soap (Turtle Wax, Rain-X, etc.)
  • Sponges
  • Scrub brushes

Donations can be dropped off at Pine View during school hours.
