Farmer's Market Makes a Fresh Start
The newly reopened Land O' Lakes Farmer's Market can help make healthy habit resolutions last well beyond the first week of January.
We all say it.
This year, I am going to watch what I eat and make better choices about the food that I bring home.
Often it's easier said than done. Grabbing something quick doesn't always translate to something healthy.

But with the Land O' Lakes Farmer's Market up and running again, a pit stop for fresh produce can make life that much easier.
"We should all be eating fresher," market owner Ken Copeland said. "We live in a breadbasket."

With 85 percent of the nation's produce coming from Florida and California, the selections are fresh and abundant in our area, Copeland said.
And with 40 years of experience, Copeland knows what to look for when he makes his way through the wholesale farmer's market to select his products.
"I pick the best of what's available that day," Copeland said.
Buying local not only ensures the selections are fresh, but it also has a positive impact on the local economy, keeping revenues within the community, Copeland said.
Copeland's goals are simple, he said. "I would like to create jobs and feed people more reasonably."
The Land O' Lakes Farmer's Market carries a lot more items than the average produce market, Copeland said. Right now, the market averages about 150 items, but Copeland plans to stock more than 200 in the "near future," he said.
"I always have something a bit new," Copeland said. From fresh herbs to five varieties of lettuce, Copeland said having a good variety is the key to his longevity in the business.
As a third-generation grocer, he has a passion for produce, and strives to make a good first impression, he said.
"I want you to like what you get and come back every day," Copeland said.
The Land O' Lakes Farmer's Market Facebook page lists daily specials so customers can stay in the loop, Copeland said.
The market, 21329 Carson Drive, is now open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.Â
