New Store Opens Thursday with Plans to Outprice the Competition

There's a new business in town, and the retailer's management says your experience there will be different from most other furniture stores.

Furniture Direct opens Nov.1, and manager Christian Peyton has been busy prepping the store to make it customer ready.

And customer friendly.

Peyton, who managed another furniture store in the Bay area before taking his new position at the new, locally-owned Furniture Direct, said customers are often gun-shy when they walk into a businesses typically known for aggressive salespeople.

That won't happen at Furniture Direct, he said.

"I don't follow anyone around the store," he said. "I will greet you and leave you alone."

The store carries about 10 furniture brands, Peyton said, so there's something for everyone's style and budget.

And pricing is a key factor setting Furniture Direct apart from other stores, he said.

"Our prices are way lower than the competition," Peyton said. if you find a lower advertised price on an item, Peyton will match it, he said.

He doesn't expect to do that often, though.

"Our normal margin is going to beat it, anyway," Peyton said.

The store offers a flat $75 delivery fee, regardless of number of items. And delivery is free on purchases over $1,000, he said.

Co-owner Richard Spencer said he chose the location because he lives in the area and liked the layout the former Buddy Buy Right space offered.

The store will have its soft opening Nov. 1. Grand opening event plans are in the works, Peyton said.
